- Other Notes
- Much plant exploration and collection occurred in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Seeds of American plants were enthusiastically received by Europeans. Clarkias, collected on the famous Lewis and Clark expedition (1804-1806), were first brought into notice in England rather than in their native America. Bernard McMahobn of Philadelphia distributed many seeds from this expedition.
