Travel to the JC Raulston Arboretum by Bus

Raleigh's public bus system GoRaleigh currently has three routes that stop near the JC Raulston Arboretum; Method route 12 (stops about 1/4 mile from the gate), Hillsborough St route 9 (stops at the JCRA pedestrian gate) and temporarily, Blue Ridge route 27 (also at the JCRA pedestrian gate). North Carolina State University's bus service Wolfline currently has a few routes that stop near the JC Raulston Arboretum. On weekdays, route 60 stops on Hillsborough Street at Meredith College about 1/2 mile from the JC Raulston Arboretum. During the week and on weekends, route 30 (*) stops at Ligon Street and Method Road, about 1/2 mile from the JC Raulston Arboretum. Here is a real time location map

Directions from the West or from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport

Take I-85/I-40 East to Raleigh. Merge onto Wade Avenue at exit #289. Take the third exit on the right and merge onto I-440. Take the Hillsborough Street exit (Exit 3). Turn left onto Hillsborough Street. Go through the first light and turn right at the second light (by the Waffle House) onto Beryl Road. Go over the railroad tracks, (bearing to the right) and continue straight ahead for about a half mile. The Arboretum's entrance is on the left shortly after Capitol City Lumber.



Directions from the North

From I-440, take the Hillsborough Street exit (Exit 3). Turn left onto Hillsborough Street. Go through the first light and turn right at the second light (by the Waffle House) onto Beryl Road. Go over the railroad tracks, (bearing to the right) and continue straight ahead for about a half mile. The Arboretum's entrance is on the left shortly after Capitol City Lumber.


Drive in from the South

Take I-95 north to intersection of I-40. Take I-40 west to Raleigh. From I-440, take exit #293b (sign reads "To I-440 Wake Forest"). Exit road will split—take the first right to East I-440 Raleigh. Take exit 3 to Hillsborough Street. Go left onto Hillsborough Street one block to traffic light (by the Waffle House) and turn right on Beryl Road. Go over railroad tracks (bearing to the right) and continue straight ahead about a half mile. The Arboretum's entrance is on the left shortly after Capitol City Lumber.


Beryl Road Closed at Blue Ridge Road

The Blue Ridge Road intersections with Beryl Road and with Pylon Drive are closed. If you are approaching the JC Raulston Arboretum from the south (e.g., Western Boulevard exit off of the I-440 beltline) then you can get to the Arboretum by taking one of the following paths:     1) Western Boulevard to Gorman Street to Hillsborough Street to Beryl Road;    2) Western Boulevard to Method Road to Beryl Road;    3) Western Boulevard to Blue Ridge Road. to Hutton Street, to Pylon Drive to Beryl Road. The Arboretum is most easily approached from the north by taking the Hillsborough Street exit off of I-440 and turning onto Beryl Road at the Waffle House near the Meredith College campus. Blue Ridge Road / Hillsborough Street Intersection is impacted by construction

Blue Ridge Road travelling south ends at Hillsborough Street during the Blue Ridge Corridor construction. After construction is complete, Beryl Road and Hillsborough Street will have bridges passing over Blue Ridge Rd. JCRA visitors can still access Beryl Road from Hillsborough Street east of this intersection near Meredith College or from the south on Western Boulevard (to Blue Ridge Road to Hutton Street to Pylon Avenue to Beryl Road).

I-440 Widening Project

Interstate 440 is under construction near the JC Raulston Arboretum. Road closures aren't expected during the day, but they may happen from time to time. Traffic patterns will change perioically too. Conditions change on a daily basis so drive cautiously and expect the unexpected on Hillsborough Street, Blue Ridge Road, and Beryl Road.
