"Decades of experience documenting the composition and functioning of natural communities across the Southeast and around the globe combined with a passion for gardening, education, and conservation to create the massive Natural Heritage Garden at the South Carolina Botanical Garden. This garden started the journey I took into unraveling the importance of ecological function to garden health and supporting regional biodiversity. The results on the faunal diversity and support of ecological webs at the SCBG are dramatic. Join me as we take the journey together and see the dramatic difference planting spaces as "natural community gardens" has on life in your neighborhood. We will unravel some of the "mythology" surrounding "native" plants and delve into the impacts that planting in a model of ecological function has regardless of the origin of the plants you utilize in your own backyard paradise." - Dr. Patrick McMillan
