Home gardening has seen a resurgence in popularity as many people look to address concerns about rising food prices, food source stability, and knowing where your food comes from. This home gardening presentation will provide basic tips on how to get started with a home garden and some practical information on how to make your garden more successful. We'll address basic vegetable garden design, soils, plant selection, planting and harvesting times, as well as top vegetable garden diseases and pests and what to do about them.

About Rich Woynicz

Rich Woynicz (pronounced woy-nich) has been gardening since he was five years old. He started picking up rocks in his father's garden in New Jersey and hasn't stopped picking rocks out of the garden since. He is a certified Wake County Master Gardener Volunteer since June 2015. He has led and volunteered at the Kirk Community Garden and the Food Bank Community Garden and provides technical direction to numerous other community and school gardens in the Raleigh area. He has a 1/4-acre garden of his own where he does four-season vegetable gardening since he moved to North Carolina in 1991. Outside of "playing in the dirt" at night and on the weekends, he works in information technology where he is a solution architect with Lumen Technologies.

Cost

Free for Friends of the JC Raulston Arboretum members, Extension Master Gardeners, Department of Horticultural Science staff and faculty, NC State University students, and online participants; otherwise $5.00.
