Plant-lover's Tour

"Highlights and History of the Southall Memorial Garden, Boxwood Collection, and More"
Douglas Ruhren, Gardens Manager

  • Tuesday, February 2, 2021 – 1:00 pm2:30 pm

The Southall Memorial Garden is dedicated to the memory of an outstanding NC State University horticulture professor, Russell Southall, Ph.D., who taught plant materials from 1966 to 1978. He was greatly loved by his students and inspired an interest in plants to many people. His untimely death in 1979 lead to the concept of this garden as a hemlock tree grove containing many of his favorite plants and a space that could be used as an outdoor classroom. Join Douglas Ruhren, gardens manager, on a tour through this garden and the nearby Boxwood Collection to see what's looking great in the middle of winter.
