Joseph is nuts about plants. He says that he's always been that way—he even remembers asking for plants and seeds for his fifth birthday. Since that early beginning, he's done a lot of different things in the plant world. He's worked in public gardens, in nurseries in the United States and Japan, studied plant breeding and genetics in graduate school, and has now stumbled into a freelance garden writing career made up of writing books, articles, editing the Rock Garden Quarterly, and any other odd job he can cobble together. Plants have taken him to a lot of interesting places and has allowed him meet a lot of cool people, and he want to share some of the stories and gardening lessons he's learned along the way.

About Joseph Tychonievich

Joseph Tychonievich gardens in his Williamsburg, Virginia, yard. And in a friends yard. And with lights in his closet. He pretends that this is necessary research to write his books and magazine articles about gardening. Thankfully his husband accepts this, and the unpredictable deluges of vegetables he grows, with grace. Joseph is the author of Plant Breeding for the Home Gardener, The Complete Guide to Gardeners, and Rock Gardening: Reimagining a Classic Style and is the editor the North American Rock Garden Society quarterly journal.
