Help Put JC Raulston Arboretum in the Spotlight

JCRA's Moonlight in the Garden event opened our eyes to the growth potential of having events after dark. We would like you to join our initiative to bring permanent landscape lighting and improvements to one of the South's great gardens.

Landscape lighting is an investment in the Arboretum's future—and the future of gardening. We've included a list of improvements that will help attract more rental opportunities at our gardens and the Ruby C. McSwain Education Center. Facilities rentals are the greatest source of revenue for the JCRA's programs. Please consider helping us make them a reality.

How Can You Help Support the JC Raulston Arboretum?

Every gift—big or small—helps us make your arboretum a better place.

Expand Crevice Garden on Rooftop … $11,000

The crevice garden was originally established by the Piedmont Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society and has attracted many visitors. As guests ask for ways to reproduce this magic garden, we would like to expand on our demonstration.

pedestrian entrance

Pedestrian Entrance Garden … $4,300

Our newly renovated pedestrian entrance displaced many plants inside the Arboretum in order to bring the pedestrian path between the two majestic oak trees. Installation of new plants will enhance the uniqueness of this new space.

Entry Garden

Reset Path for Perennial Border … $6,000
Fully Funded

After years of wonderful use, this packed gravel path is in need of renovations. The weather tends to disturb the path over the years and the last hurricane and flood-like rain has impacted it greatly.

York Auditorium

New Carpet for the York Auditorium … $8,600

Over the years, many different groups have used the Ruby C. McSwain Education Center for events and gatherings. As with any frequently used rental space the carpet is showing signs of wear and tear. The installation of new carpet will enhance the rental capabilities of the space and add value to the auditorium.

festoon lighting

Festoon Lighting at McSwain Center … $1,300

Festive lights liven up the existing terrace chosen by so many visitors to celebrate special occasions.

Fireflies (lighting installation)

Kelly Francis Fireflies at the Pedestrian Entrance … $5,800
Fully Funded

These dancing lights were loaned to us for the Moonlight in the Garden event by Kelly Francis, a designer from California. We would like for them to remain at the JCRA, as they will enhance the visitor experience walking into the Arboretum under the two 40-year old oak trees.

double light poles

Double Light Poles along the Perennial Border … $10,000
Fully Funded

These functional fixtures will provide guests and organization the necessary lighting to host evening events—a feature that will also enhance our ability to rent the great lawn.

Fireflies (lighting installation)

Reset Path in Mixed Border $6,500
