Tired of winter? Ready for spring? We are, and we're kicking the season off right with a hybrid plant sale (on-site and online). This year's spring plant sale opens with an online sale and ends with our traditional on-site sale during our Raulston Blooms! Spring Festival

Our sales have a reputation for including hot new introductions, hard to find specialty plants, and our favorite reliable performers. This sale has it all. Our horticulturists have been busy creating an amazing plant list including plants from greenhouses and nurseries around the country!

In China, JCRA director Mark Weathington collected this peculiar evergreen maple with a more willow–ey leaf. Deep burgundy new growth becomes silvery blue if given plenty of sun. Hardy, but take care during first winter. JCRA introduction.

Seedlings from a red-leaved Japanese maple called 'Bloodgood'. Will exhibit a range of traits but likely have some degree of red leaves. We don't know who the daddy is, but it is likely to be a superior variety with interesting traits. Browse them all and pick your favorite. Fantastic small trees.

Wang's horsechestnut

Grown from seed of a specimen in Dan Hinckley's collection. Aesculus wangii is a Vietnamese species with lovely globe-shaped habit of growth to 35ft, clad with deciduous, finely textured palmate foliage and, in due time, erect racemes of white flowers pollinated by swallowtails, resulting in amazingly large fruits, the size of a childs head.

One of the easiest agaves to grow in our area, this compact one spreads by underground rhizomes forming a beautiful mass of multiple crowns. Each dark green leaf has a central gold stripe. Native to the higher elevations of Mexico, it can withstand temperatures to 0°F.

narrow-leaved century plant

Needle agave is a unique among the agaves for its round, cylindrical leaves. Plants form dense rosettes crowded with these long, very sharply pointed leaves, the rosette reaching 24"–36" across. A specimen growing in our Southwestern Garden for over 10 years here at the JCRA readily offsets and has flowered several times. Flower spikes reach about 10' tall and are crowded with bright yellow, quasi-tubular flowers that attract insects and hummingbirds alike. Sharp drainage is essential for acclimation to cold winter conditions in all hardy agaves.
