Tired of winter? Ready for spring? We are, and we're kicking the season off right with a hybrid plant sale (on-site and online). This year's spring plant sale opens with an online sale and ends with our traditional on-site sale during our Raulston Blooms! Spring Festival

Our sales have a reputation for including hot new introductions, hard to find specialty plants, and our favorite reliable performers. This sale has it all. Our horticulturists have been busy creating an amazing plant list including plants from greenhouses and nurseries around the country!

Metapanax davidii
David false-ginseng

We have been thoroughly impressed with the performance of this species in the garden where it makes an evergreen shrub with palmately compound to simple foliage. Sputnik-like flowers give rise to blue-black fruits. May need some winter protection.

bee balm

Widespread native prefers consistent moisture and airflow to prevent powdery mildew. Cut dead stems to 12 to 24" so native bees can nest inside.

Neolepisorus fortunei
Fortune's ribbon fern

Fortune's ribbon fern is a striking, non-frilly fern with long, narrow fronds 18" long but only 1.5" across. It is hardy for us in Raleigh and is best sited where it receives some winter protection. It makes a slowly, slowly creeping clump to a few feet wide after many years.

Osmanthus fragrans
sweet olive

Among the most fragrant of all landscape plants is the tea olive a large evergreen shrub with white flowers produced in spring and fall and occasionally at other times of the year. JCRA director Mark Weathington says sweet olives are what make the humidity and mosquitoes in the south bearable.

sweet olive

A large, evergreen shrub with white flowers produced sporadically from fall through winter. 'Qiannan Guifei' has new growth is bright pink, turning white, then green.

Osmanthus fragrans 'Yinbi Shuanghui'
sweet olive

Foliage emerges tinged red with a pink border, maturing to gray-green with a creamy edge. Fragrant flowers and blue-black fruit make this an evergreen shrub for all seasons. Cultivar name translates to 'silver green double brilliance'.

Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Kaori Hime'
Chinese false holly

This vigorous but compact osmanthus bears tiny, holly-like leaves and its small white flowers are highly fragrant giving it the Japanese name 'fragrant princess.' A JC Raulston Arboretum Choice Plants selection.

cinnamon fern

Deciduous US native fern. Separate spore-bearing fronds appear in rich, handsome, cinnamon tints that contrast with upright, shuttlecock-like clump of sterile fronds. Large specimens in ideal locations can reach over 5' tall but most plantings will be 3' or so.

Itoh peony

Itoh peonies are hybrids combining the best of tree and herbaceous ones - large flowers, dense forms, sturdy stems, BIG impact. Dozens of semi-double, fragrant white flowers with purple flares in spring.

Passiflora 'Lady Margaret'
passion flower

A hybrid passion vine with red flowers and a bright white spot in the center. Evergreen in warmer climates, this is a die-back vine here in North Carolina that grows to 10' tall each season. Peak bloom is in late summer. Prefers lean soil that stays on the dry side.

Collected by Mark Weathington in Uruguay. A hibiscus relative that makes an low lying subshrub with erect flower stalks topped with 2" wide hibiscus-like flowers that are white or pale pink with dark central eye. A great meadow plant.
