Growing fruit trees in North Carolina is not for the faint of heart. Our humid climate invites a host of diseases, and challenges like Peach Tree Short Life make success elusive even for commercial growers. In this program, our Director of Horticulture Greg sits down with NC State tree fruit specialist Dr. Mike Parker and the JCRA's own Bernadette Clark to explore both the science and the struggle of growing fruit trees in our region. They'll share how research is helping improve production, why homeowners face unique obstacles, and what advantages small-scale growers can use to their benefit. Whether you dream of a backyard orchard or simply want to understand the challenges behind the harvest, this conversation will give you a new appreciation for your local produce.
