Bartlett Tree Research Labs and Arboretum in Charlotte, N.C., serves as the research wing of the well-known tree care company Bartlett Tree Experts and also houses a spectacular collection of plants. For decades the 360-acre private arboretum was strictly focused on woody plants, but in recent years rare and obscure herbaceous plants have become increasingly incorporated in unique or naturalistic settings. Adam Black, Director of Horticulture and Plant Conservation, will feature all the recently installed specialty rock gardens that uniquely feature some exciting floral diversity, as well as some ambitious plans for some truly innovative habitat re-creations.

Plus bonus 15-minute talk on "Early Spring Wildflowers in the Mountains of Southern Turkey" by Cyndy Cromwell, Cary, N.C.

NARGS vice president and local chapter member Cyndy Cromwell will give a brief talk featuring botanical highlights of the NARGS 2024 tour Lycia Awakens, led by Chris and Basak Gardner of Vira Natura Tours. The group ventured each day from the southern coast of Turkey into the higher hills and mountains, finding an array of early blooming crocuses, colchicums, corydalis, cyclamen, snowdrops, and orchids. We explored the botanically rich Tahtali Dagi Mountain which rises from the sea to 7000 feet in just a few miles, and were lucky the last day to find endemic Sternbergia candida at peak bloom on a snowy slope of Baba Dagi.
