School is back in session, so it's a great time to check in on our friends at other university gardens. Dr. Jason Lattier, director of the Caine Conservatory and Emma Martone, Curator of the Mariana H. Qubein Arboretum and Botanical Gardens will be sharing their work at High Point University's gardens and arboretum.
Join them as they explore the history of the gardens and conservatory at High Point University, along with their plans to expand the plant collections and enhance student education and well-being through the inspirational power of nature.
The Friends of the Arboretum lectures offer our community a delightful opportunity to come together and indulge in the company of gardening enthusiasts while soaking in enriching lectures. We encourage you to bring your friends and neighbors, inviting them to get to know us! The first half-hour of the program will be a time to gather and share garden stories, swap ideas and enjoy each other's company. The lecture portion of the program will begin at 7:00 pm.
About Jason and Emma
Dr. Jason Lattier (La-teer) is the Director of the Caine Conservatory at High Point University.
Jason is a native of Raleigh and a product of the NC State horticulture program. He obtained his undergraduate and Master’s degree from NC State where he focused on ornamental plant breeding and genetics. He followed his passion for plant breeding to Oregon State University where obtained his Ph.D. in breeding and genetics of lilacs and hardy hibiscus.
In addition to his education, Jason has extensive experience working in public gardens and conservatories around the world. Some of the highlights of his career include internships at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, the Nectandra Institute in Costa Rica, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, and the world’s largest conservatories at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK. Prior to coming to High Point, Jason was a postdoctoral fellow at the US National Arboretum in Washington, DC.
Throughout his career, Jason has developed a passion for horticulture, for botanical research, and for teaching.
Emma Martone is the Curator of the Mariana H. Qubein Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
Emma has a background in landscape design and project management and holds her bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University. Emma is passionate about connecting people to the natural world, and received her masters in Public Garden Leadership from Cornell University.
Currently, she serves as the Curator of the Mariana H Qubein Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at High Point University, where she oversees the day-to-day operations as well design and programmatic development of the gardens.
