Want to make the most of rainfall when it comes? Come and learn about the mechanics of how to design and build a rain garden. What is a rain garden? It is a garden designed to capture, use, and filter rain water runoff preventing it from entering the stormwater system. Rain that enters storm drains must be treated before it can be used again. Are rain gardens ugly? Nope! They are beautiful. In fact, you may have seen and admired one and not even known it.
This lecture will discuss design options that will help your landscape conserve and best use rainfall (should it ever rain again). Rain garden dimensions and planting options will be explored. We will also look at several examples of rain gardens of all sizes. Ever wanted to build your own rain barrel? I will show you how to build a rain barrel that will not breed mosquitoes and will provide access to water when things get dry. Other water saving options will be also be explored.

- Free for Friends of the JC Raulston Arboretum members, NC State University students (with ID), and Department of Horticultural Science faculty and staff, all others $5.00. Bring your membership card to check in quickly, but as always, we will have a membership list at registration.
