Jenks Farmer knows the type of gardens he likes the best, he just does not know what to call them. They're the ones that reveal the gardener, the ones that show him the gardener's heart and soul. He's seen them wedged into concrete rooftops, expanded over acres of rolling hills, floating over marsh docks, and surrounding historic plantation houses. He's seen them made by the poorest fishermen in Nicaragua, the richest ladies in England, and by Master Gardeners on cul-de-sacs. The most important ingredient in these gardens is an abundance of plants. However, these gardens also include hints of the gardener's every day life. In these very personal gardens, artists and collectors let their obsessions merge with the plants.
Jenks is the curator and designer for Moore Farms, one the most horticulturally sophisticated private gardens in the state. Moore Farms is a 25 acre garden with a staff of nine horticulturist. He also owns and operates LushLife Nurseries, a connoisseur's nursery specializing in crinum-lilies, a sub-tropic genus of the amaryllis family. LushLife Nurseries is a small, family operated nursery with his partner Tom Hall, co-owner, as well as two nephews. Jenks lectures all over for groups as diverse as the Smithsonian Institute, Wave Hill Gardens, the Antique Rose Emporium, and the Allendale Ladies Afternoon Social Club. His articles appear regularly in Carolina Gardener and in the past in Fine Gardening, Organic Gardening, Horticulture, American Nurseryman, and several scientific journals.

- Free for Friends of the JC Raulston Arboretum members, NC State University students (with ID), and Department of Horticultural Science faculty and staff, all others $5.00. Bring your membership card to check in quickly, but as always, we will have a membership list at registration.
