JC Raulston Arboretum e-Update
April 2017
Your Monthly News and Updates
Director's Note
By Mark Weathington, Director
We're kicking this month off with a bang—Raulston Blooms! starts on April 1 with all sorts of great activities, plant sales, art vendors, bird houses, food trucks and more. I'm especially excited about the mobile glassblower who will be showing off her craft. We should have some very interesting things this year in the plant sale including an expanded selection of perennials. Make sure to stop me and say hello during your visit and let me know how we're doing and what the JCRA can do to serve our members even better.

Now that spring has arrived—I hope—it's time to evaluate what damage this crazy winter has caused. We had plenty of plants leafing out only to be zapped by temperatures in the low 20s. Mostly plants look like they are pulling through in pretty good shape but I'll be interested to know how your plants are doing.  On the plus side, we had an amazing spring display of magnolias this year, mostly in February rather than when they were supposed to be out but they were lovely all the same. Even with the weather finally warming up, remember plants may need protection from frost through the middle of April. Keep that in mind as the gardening bug hits and you simply must start planting.

Have a happy spring!

We welcome Piedmont Feed and Garden Center to the membership benefit providers supporting the Arboretum and offering you savings. Piedmont Feed and Garden , located at 4805 NC Highway 54 West in Chapel Hill, is offering JCRA members a 10% discount on plants and pottery. For many of these businesses, the discount they offer to our members is just one way they support us. These discounts help your JCRA membership pay for itself! We thank them and encourage you to do the same when you visit and use your Friends of the Arboretum benefit. Visit the JCRA's Web site for more information including the discounts these companies offer.
