"Macro Photography–Level 1"
Dick Cicone, Capital City Camera Club

Sponsored by the Capital City Camera Club and the JC Raulston Arboretum

  • Saturday, May 19, 2012 – 9:00 am4:00 pm

Learn the basics of macro photography through classroom presentation, field experience, and photograph critique. Technically, macro photography is when you produce an image where your subject is captured on your image sensor at life size, or larger. In the case of most cameras and photography, macro is not achieved and in fact, close-up photography would be a better description. However, most manufacturers call their close-up mode macro-mode.

Instruction will address basic camera settings for best photo quality; exposure considerations; lighting; macro equipment options; and techniques for taking close-up images of small plants, parts, and insects.

Students should bring camera, extra camera battery (recommended), plenty of room on digital storage media or extra film, external flash (optional), a tripod is helpful, plastic bag to kneel on as subjects are often low to the ground, any macro lenses or filters students may have. Normal, telephoto, or built-in lenses will work fine for macro work.

Prospective students are welcome to contact Dick Cicone with questions at rcicone@nc.rr.com.
