At 446 acres, the U.S. National Arboretum is 40 times larger than the JC Raulston Arboretum, with 26,600 living accessions. However, bigger isn't always better, as stagnant arboreta need to balance preservation of germplasm with modern collections to maintain relevance and impact. Join Richard as he evaluates the arboretum collections from a "J. C." perspective, commenting on underutilized plants, novel imports, and breeding potential of garden worthy treasures at the National Arboretum.
